Testosterone Replacement
- Only indicated if:
- AM Testosterone level < 200 ng/dL (6.9 nmol/L, or 2 ng/mL)
- Source of hypogonadism is identified
Treatment of Perimenopausal Symptoms
- Indicated for women 40-60yo, used < 10 years
- Contraindicated in previous:
- Heart Disease
- Breast Cancer
- Venous Thromboembolism
- If woman has a uterus --> estrogen is given with progestin to prevent endometrial hyperplasia
- If woman has NO uterus --> estorgen alone
- NOTE:
- Estrogen patch does not increase risk of thromboembolic disease
